QCL provides and supports rapid analytical solutions for food and dairy testing laboratories and processing plants in the UK. QCL is the exclusive distributor of several overseas manufacturers focusing in the areas of rapid diagnostic testing. We also manufacture and supply the UK market with cryoscope consumables.

The Fluorophos assay is the EU and UK reference test and is ISO accredited (ISO 11816-1).
The Fluorophos ALP Test System takes the phosphatase test for pasteurisation verification to its highest level by yielding quantitative results, eliminating subjective interpretation. The Fluorophos ALP Test maximises production efficiency by serving as an early warning system for processing malfunctions, thereby reducing routine maintenance. By tracking ALP results, it is possible to determine when maintenance is necessary and improve the integrity of the processing system. Consisting of a bench fluorometer and ALP Test kit, the system provides results in 3 minutes.

Key Features: Fastest test available, easiest to use, greatest sensitivity, highest specificity, HACCP-ready and globally proven.

Extraneous Water (Freezing Point Depression) - Cryoscopy

The Advanced Instruments 4250 single-sample cryoscope uses the industry standard thermistor freezing point method to precisely determine added water in milk.  With its on-board sample identification, broad measurement range and optimal sample size requirement, the Advanced 4250 provides accurate results compliant with ISO5764 plateau-seeking mode. The 4250 combines advanced features with simplified operation - a low maintenance, reliable high performance laboratory instrument.

Key Features: barcode capability, electronic storage and retrieval of approximately 30 test results, multi-language capability, downloadable software upgrades and onboard printer.

The Advanced Instruments Model 4C3 multi-sample cryoscope is specifically designed to maximise testing efficiency and keep milk shipments moving. An operator prepares and loads up to ten sample tubes into a specially-designed cassette and inserts the cassette into the cryoscope for testing. The operator then proceeds on to the next cassette, prepares sample tubes, loads them and inserts the cassette into the instrument. Previously loaded samples continue to process automatically while new cassettes are loaded and inserted.

The BacTrac rapid microbiology detection system is in extensive use across the globe. The now well-proven technique of second-generation impedance technology offers unparalleled performance at a fraction of the cost of PCR systems. Most, if not all applications are already documented, and selective impedance media is already available. One of the most valuable uses of the BacTrac is for Positive Release of manufactured product, within hours rather than days or weeks. You don’t have to store a week of finished goods before the micro result comes back – and no dilution or preparation of your sample is usually necessary.

Composition Analysis – Milk and Liquid Dairy Products

A number of options are available for rapid butterfat testing on milk and dairy products:

Composition Analysis - Pastes, Oils & Powders

Based on FT Near-Infrared technology, many different materials can be measured on the QFAfocus and QFAflex instruments from Qinterline. Current applications cover:

Food ingredients, Dairy products, Edible Oils, Confectionary, Meat, Animal Feeds, Forage, Soil and Compost.

The QFAfocus is a versatile FT infrared instrument capable of measuring pasty products such as: butter
, spreads, mayonnaise, molten chocolate, soft cheese, cream cheese, milk concentrates, yoghurts, dressings and minced meat.

Parameters measured for include: moisture, fat, salt and acid. The instrument works by using disposable low-cost plastic bags as cuvettes. The sample is placed in the bag, sealed and then clipped into the movable sledge at the front of the instrument. As the sledge slides back and forth during measurement inhomogeneous products can be measured without losing accuracy or repeatability.

The QFAflex series of instruments are designed around flexible sample handling. Based on an FT Infrared optical deck there are several options for the configuration of the QFAflex depending on analysis requirements and detector choice. The major feature of the QFAflex series is the dual option, whereby solids and liquids can be measured on one system without changing any components. Many applications are possible covering properties such as; protein, fat, moisture, starch, sugar, ash, raw cell matter, salt, phosphorus, alcohol and sucrose.

In-Line Composition Analysis

In-line analysers for real-time product analysis are available from QCL. In-line analysis provides the optimum control over the process and hence on large scale production translates into greater profits.

The Tefwin Dairy NIR on-line cell from Qinterline is designed as a new and innovative technique for monitoring a process using NIR. The Tefwin can be used for monitoring the production of dairy products and similar substances.

Milk Titration

The Orion 950 Fast QC Titrator automates titration methods which are routinely used in Dairy Laboratories. Methods are available for total acidity (lactic acid content) of milk and cream, CIP detergent strength, salt in butter and many others. Automation removes the errors associated with manual titrations which rely on a visual colour change end point and a calculation by laboratory staff. The result is vastly improved accuracy and repeatability of titrations.
